During the course of the six day TransRockies race, Shelly Girl and Lefty send short updates on their adventure…..
Rocky Mountain High
Day one felt like a race day. With a 3 am wake up call 3 flights and a mad dash to catch a flight connection we really put in a long day! All worth it when we saw the mountains! We are spending the next two days in aspen visiting family and getting used to being at 8000 feet.
It’s a small world
Caught up with our sleep today and then hiked Aspen mountain. Thought we were going from 8000 to 10000 feet but actually got to a little over 11000! Had no altitude issues so that was encouraging. The top was breathtaking and we had a blast taking the gondola down. In the small world deparment, we met a couple on the way up the mountain from Canada who are running transrockies!!
One step closer to Sunday
Last day in Aspen. Lots of mountain weather (sun, rain, sun, storms)but still hiked buttermilk mountain with michele’a sister. We are off to buena vista in the morning. Sorry to leave this wonderful place but looking forward to getting one step closer to Sunday.
The wait is almost over
We are in buena vista basically resting and waiting. Enjoyed an amazing drive over independance pass to get here from aspen today. Our hotel overlooks the collegiate peaks a series of 14000 foot peaks that are breathtaking. Wish we could get to the top of a few but that will need to wait for another day. Race Registration tomorrow supposed to be good swag handed out!!
Let’s get this show on the road!
Registration, packing and the orientation dinner made today quite overwhelming. So many details with an event like this and we are pretty anxious tonight. On the bright side the race swag was amazing and we have already met lots of folks from all over the world. Bottom line is we are ready to get this show on the road in the morning!!
Two down
Two days down impossible to describe much more than a running event. We are doing well and enjoying the experience but it is butt kicking hard. Went over hope pass today and run 24 miles tomorrow all above 9000 feet last chance to post till don’t know when you are in our thoughts and we are trying our best to represent the bumblers
Done!
We just returned from the closing banquet. Feels like the end of summer camp. The facts: after stage 1 we were 13th out of 23 teams and after 6 stages we finished 8th out of 21 teams in our division, including finishing 7th the last three stages. Got stronger every day, amazing what the body can do! More important than the facts is the experience. Impossible to put in words. Home tomorrow, tired, sore and proud!
