Hey Bimblers,
Well it’s official! Boston 2009 training has finally begun. First the bad news. Shortly after signing up to run Boston for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp I received the news of a stress fracture in my foot. This has limited my running quite a bit. Four weeks without wearing running shoes sent me to the pool to swim three days a week. Although I love the water I don’t swim very well! It has been a challenge for me.
You may have seen me on the Jingle Bell Run however and a run with Bimblers the day after Christmas. I won’t lie, it hurt but oh so much joy!
The good news starts with my first week without any pain, so here I go! Also, donations are coming in from everywhere. The pot is building and I am close to a third of the way to my goal of $3,000. What I did not anticipate was to be moved by each one. I had no idea. I am suppose to be running for someone else but I am touched by each gift. It is as if each person is extending a hand to help in friendship. It already is a life changing experience.
The Hole in the Wall Camp is busy preparing for another year of healing and fun. I recently learned of a holiday party at the camp where every child received a toy and a photo with Santa. Over 500 campers, siblings and parents attended the dinner where campers could reinforce bonds made during the summer months. Sounds like what the holidays should be all about.
Finally, I have adopted a quote for my mission from a Irish runner named Noel Carroll. I am using it as a rally cry but I can’t help but think of how it also describes my Bimbler friends.
“ If the winds of passion are not in our sails, all the steering in the world would get us nowhere.”
