This adventure has highlights surrounding the trip and the race. Before the highlights however let me just say that the Terrapin Mtn 50K was a very well organized event from start to finish, great aid and volunteers. A very TOUGH course with brutal ascents and just as brutal descents. Every climbing muscle still hurts!!!
The Race: 1. the course: even though I reviewed the map like 10 times I still had no idea, so it was all a surprise. 2. The orienteering punches: 3 of them punched into our bib # to prove we went on the correct course. 3. The Terrapin I never saw but stood on top of, HA! 4. The massively painful climb to the terrapin. 5. Fat Man’s Misery: lowering down into a narrow semi covered rock formation tilted to the left, a breeze for me but definitely unique!
The Trip: 1. A Tea Room with no Tea: however a beautiful fancy restaurant with wonderful smells of rich food… but no tea? 2. The use of the word underwhelming… several times in fact, not ever heard by me before. 3. The overwhelming feeling of viewing some of the peaks in VA I have climbed, had not seen them from quite that view before. 4. Who exactly was Molly Pitcher? 5. Camping with such high winds that the side of the tent hitting me in the head woke me up!! 6. Getting to a race in VA in the daylight. 7. Absolutely NO traffic. 8. Riddles and Jokes: you will just have to venture to VA with us to hear those.

Cograts Loopy – The views of the mountains you have navigated in previous races must have been mind blowing!
Thanks also for the history lesson and Molly Pitcher…. there must be more to that part of your trip.
Way to Go Big on the insane uphills and the torturous downhills. Ouch!!
Good job Loopy Forrest & Suds!!

Loopy:
But, do they serve coffee? And, do they serve stinky, sweaty, muddy runners on a Saturday night, like, say, after Promise Land?
I found this on their website:
“Please recognize that our establishment is very cozy for 40 or more folks on a busy night and that strong perfumes, colognes, mothballs and body oils may disrupt others. We ask that you refrain from using strong scents so that we all may enjoy ourselves.”
