If you run a half marathon but don’t announce it, did it take place?
If you enter a race in New Hampshire and are surprised there were hills, did it take place?

At this point it would be appropriate to offer congratulations, if only one could be sure it actually took place.
The way I hear the story told, they were just innocently in New Hampshire for some leaf-peeping (seems awfully late in the season, but, hey?) and a half-marathon broke out. What else could a Bimbler do under the circumstances?
