The strange noises at the beginning are animal sounds played over the PA. Plus I think the RD was addressing me directly at the begining (shame I didn’t listen)!

8:00 Sunday morning. Shellygirl and I drove up to the Killingworth traffic circle to meet Iggy and Ticket at the commuter parking lot and then head up to tackle the Breakneck 20K. It seems Iggy had a rough night, unfortunately all work related, and decided to skip the festivities. She still met us just to say she was not going. What a good girl!
Shortly after 8 we began the hour drive up to Bigelow State Park to tackle one of the more interesting races around. The three of us have all had some previous experience with races in this part of the world, with Shellygirl and I having run the Nipmuck and the Northen Nipmuck races and Shellygirl and Ticket running the Breakneck last year. “Good Time Running” is the slogan for the Arkansas Traveller and the race yesterday lived up to that description. The race web site describes the course as mostly dirt roads which doesn’t sound too interesting and I was only there because it was going to be the last of the 2009 Slam races following the cancellation of WSER100. Scoobie, Guthrie, Snobody, Gazelle and Vinca stepped up to the challenge of the Hammerfest Trathlon earlier today. Heavy dawn rain gave way to overcast skies and a nasty swell in the bay off Owebego that made the swim section particularly tough. The bike leg on slick wet roads wasn’t made any easier by some poor traffic marshaling that came close to causing several accidents. But our famous five all finished in fine form with Guthrie placing 5th overall female and Scoobie 3rd in her age group. [Read more…] about Hammerfest Tri
The “morning” started really at 2:15 AM Sunday when I awoke. The alarms were set for 3:00 AM. So I rolled over, moved Daisy out of the way and happily closed my eyes savoring 45 minutes more of sleep. I knew it was going to be a long day. The alarms went off at 3:00 and I started the long day. I had gotten all of my racing stuff together the night before, so I had time to eat breakfast and grab a cup of tea before making the first rendezvous in Branford to pick up fellow Bimblers.
