My 1st Ultra, the Bimble way
It’s over. And it hurts so good….
My first official ultra is complete and all the training and preparation paid off. The day before the race I did everything to keep my mind off the race so as to not psych myself out: worked on the car for a few hrs, mass amounts of laundry, etc…). Thankfully it worked and I went on to prepare my list of medical supplies, food and gear for the race. I wanted to be over prepared since I didn’t quite know what to expect my body to do. Once that was done I felt much better about toeing the line the next day (I realized once there, the “line” was more like “stand over here”). That Rabbit Died!!
Long before most of the Bimblers Bluff runners had woken up a lone runner headed out from the start. Phil Markovich, a local runner, wanted to run the race but a family party meant he wouldn’t be able to do it at the published time. “Don’t worry,” Said the race director, “You can start early!”

Race Report – Ret Taylor

I entered the Bimbler’s Bluff 50K (31 miles) ultra marathon as my first attempt at any distance beyond the standard 26.2m (42Km), of which I’ve completed five. It was held on Sunday, October 25, 2009 on the trails of the nature preserves north of Guilford, CT. Guilford is a small town along Interstate 95 about two hours from my place in Manhattan.
