Live Tracking at the 2018 Bluff 50K

Bluff 50k Info

Live runner tracking will be provided at this year’s Bimbler’s Bluff 50K. We have teamed up with RaceJoy so participants can allow friends and family supporters to follow their progress in real-time of race day.

To use the service all you need to do is:

  1. Download RaceJoy: Download the RaceJoy app to your smartphone or tablet from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Search for your race: Go to Featured Races to locate this event and click on the race to enter.
  3. Set Up: Follow the prompts carefully to get set up properly for race day.
  4. Race Day: Carry your phone during the race and click START MY RACE as you cross the Start Line.

Bites of the Bluff 2018

Bluff 50k Info

Dates for the annual Bites of the Bluff, three low key training excursions on the Bluff 50k course, have been set. Complete all three and you will experience the entire route.

Bite 1, The Prologue – Sunday August 5, 2018. Meet at Guilford Lakes School Maupus Rd, Guilford at 8 am. The route is an out and back of approximately 8 miles. It’s dog friendly, but known to bite ankles. Click here to view route map.

Bite 2,  Wing and a Prayer – Sunday August 19, 2018. Meet across from the Guilford Monastery, Race Hill Rd, Guilford at 8 am. This is also out and back and about 12 miles. This route isn’t dog friendly, please don’t bring fido. The going can be wet but it is very runnable (most of the way). Click here to view route map.

Bite 3, Circumnavigation – Sunday September 30, 2018. Meet at the Rockland Preserve trail head in Renee’s Way, Madison at 8 am. A magnificent loop course up and over Bluff Head and a couple of other gnarly bits. Allegedly estimated to be 15 miles but dog friendly. Click here to view route map.

The pace on each run will vary and there should be enough people to form pace groups to accommodate everyone. We haven’t lost anyone ………………………yet! These runs are a great way to sample the route if you aren’t familiar with it and meet up with local runners. Participation is free and open to anyone registered for this year’s race, not registered but interested in taking part or those who are curious to know what happens on the trails.

Bimblers Bluff Bite 3

Bluff 50k Info, Bluff Bites

Bite 3, also known as Poetry In Motion or the Circumnavigation, takes you on a magnificent looped course over the Broomstick Ledges, climbs up Bluff Head, crosses into Northwoods, goes over the Mica Ledges and then skirts around the Rockland Preserve. It has a bit of everything, gnarly rocks, roots, hills and stunning views. Allegedly estimated to be 15 miles the route starts and ends at the Renee’s Way Trail Head in Madison, CT. It is also dog friendly.

To download the course file, use the download link below. Once downloaded, the file content may appear within a browser window; simply right click and ‘save as’ making sure the file type remains as gpx. As a gpx file, you will be able to upload the data to your gps device.

Bimblers Bluff Bite 2

Bluff 50k Info, Bluff Bites

Bite 2, also known as Divine Intervention is a loop using the Menunkatuck Trail (New England Scenic Trail) outbound and returning via the original trail through the Genesee Preserve. Park at the trail head across from the Guilford Monastery and head up the unmade Race Hill Rd. The route starts at the trail intersection that is the turnaround point of Bluff Bite 1. This route isn’t dog friendly as it passes through the Genesee Preserve owned by the Regional Water Authority (RWA), so please don’t bring fido. Access to RWA land is also by permit only, which can be acquired here. The going can be wet but it is very runnable (most of the way).
