This trail run was my 6th Grand Tree race this year and completing this run would enable me to qualify to apply for the Nipmuck Trial Marathon 2010. There was an Arsenault on the age group winners list at this years Smuttynose Half Marathon that was held at Hampton, NH on October 4th, 2009. How can that be so, when the runner we know with that name is still recovering from knee surgery? The answer is it was Becky, Kerry’s sister who showed that running must be in the Arsenault gene’s. Also winning her age group at the same race was Scoobie.

I have to admit that I was nervous to join this run. Because my pace is slowest of the group and it was going to be wicked hot. Lots of talk of this “Spring Loop” coarse created some excitement for me to get involved. We made some plans and were sure I would be joining Ultra for a partial of the Loop.
We got to the trailhead a little early so we headed out in the car to find the “Full Loopers” We found them at a road crossing and so we decided to join them for a run thru Dean’s Ravine. As a junior in high school a physics teacher once asked the class which was heavier; a ton of lead or a ton of feathers. I’m not going to admit what my first guess was but strangely enough I remembered being asked that question this past weekend while running the Vermont 100 Miler. The Vermont race is often described as ‘an easy one hundred’. The comment is almost a daft as thinking there is a difference in weight between a ton of different materials!
